My Diary – January 2009

Wednesday 14th January 2009

Happy New Year everyone!  I wonder what 2009 will bring!  It’s a new year and a new start for me. I have a feeling that this year is going to be a good one!  Well hopefully anyway…

I don’t have much news as it’s been nice and quiet over Christmas and New Year. Yesterday (Tuesday 13th) I went back to the gym, which was great.  It was the best work out I’ve done in months!  I did bed exercises such as sit-ups, press-ups, leg lifts etc., some walking in the parallel bars, then 5 minutes on the exercise bike, plus some other things.  I’m hoping to go to the gym regularly again now, along with hydro.  It’s great to be getting fit again.

In the afternoon I had a check-up after my recent op.  It was fine, and I don’t have to go for another check-up for six months which is good.  I definitely think the op worked.  I still have pain in my back now and again, but it’s bearable. The weak, crap feeling isn’t as bad now either, so it really was all down to a stupid stone.

I now have the exact total I raised for The Silver Lining Appeal.  Drumroll please…£43.629.38!  Not bad seeing as my target was £30,000!  Again, thank you to everyone who helped me reach it.  I’m now working with King’s College Hospital to get ‘Nicole’s Sweet’ officially opened.  It should be in the next couple of months, and I can’t wait!

I am now putting all my efforts into my £50,000 target for Teenage Cancer Trust.  I have raised £4,219.61 so far, so it’s going quite well.  I’d love to reach the £5,000 mark by my 20th birthday on the 9th February (oh my god – I’m getting so old!), which I know is being a bit optimistic but, you never know, it could happen!

A way you could help is by visiting your local Waitrose store.  They have a scheme going at the moment where every month they share £1,000 between three projects.  Shoppers are given a token to put in the slot of their chosen charity, then the £1,000 is split between the three projects/good causes, depending on the number of tokens.  To nominate a project, please go into your local store and ask at the welcome desk for a community funds form.  It’s a short form to fill in, then you just hand it back to the welcome desk.  It’s a simple way to possibly raise a bit more for Nicole’s Fund, so please do it if you have a Waitrose near you.  I can send you a postcard size card about my fund to hand in with your form, so please email me if you’d like any cards.  Thanks.

Another way you can help Nicole’s Fund (if you’re young enough!), is by registering for TCT Teen 2009.  Helen, who is the main person I work with at TCT, has created ‘TCT Teen 2009’ to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust, and we are looking for 2009 teenagers and young adults willing to raise £50 for TCT. If this is achieved over £100,000 will have been raised, so please sign up! Everyday in the UK six young people are diagnosed with cancer. That’s over 2,000 new cases of teen cancer a year. To get the same number of young people raising money to help people their age fight cancer would be amazing. To register please email:

julie.frost@teenagecancertrust.org

or call 07534 261245, and please state that you’re raising money for Nicole’s Fund.  If you need any help with ideas of how to raise your £50, just send me an email and I’ll be happy to help. Thank you!

You may have noticed there’s been a change around with my website – I hope you like it!  It was launched on New Year’s Day as I like to keep it fresh!  I have also updated the ‘Poems’ page and the events at the bottom of the ‘Nicole’s Fund’ page.  I hope to update my ‘Books’ page in the next few days, so keep checking!

I’ve just found out that I’m on Arsenal’s fundraising website at:

www.beagoonerbeagiver.org

which they’ve set up to raise money for charity.  Each football season they pick a charity to support, and this season’s charity is Teenage Cancer Trust.  Their target is to raise £300,000, and they’ve already raised almost £250,000 which is amazing!  If you go on the website and click on ‘news and events’, then the article with me in it is the one that says something like ‘Arsenal’s midfielder pays surprise visit to TCT staff’.

Thank you to Janet and her colleagues for donating on my Justgiving page recently.  Much appreciated!

I think that’s all for now!

Love Nicole xxx
