My Diary – September 2009

Sunday 6th September 2009

As promised, here’s an update…

On Monday 27th July I had the photoshoot for the front cover of my second book, Talk to the Hand.  The shoot was in Brighton and lasted around three hours.  I took half my wardrobe with me because I couldn’t decide what to wear, but I ended up wearing a plain white t-shirt because Poppy, the photographer, said that white never goes out of fashion, whereas if I wore a colour, I could one day be out of date!  Plus it’s easier for the cover designer to play around with different background colours etc. if the main photo is quite plain.  Poppy took around 300 photos, so hopefully there are a few decent ones in that lot!  The cover should be ready very soon - I can’t wait to find out what it’ll be like.  ‘Talk to the Hand’ is already available to pre-order from Amazon!  It’s very exciting, and there are only five months to wait before it comes out!  Here’s the link to start ordering!

Pre order: Talk to the Hand

I’ve recently had ‘Talk to the Hand’ back from my editors with their notes of what to extend, update etc., so I’m working hard on that until the end of the month, then it’ll go off to be published soon after!  I’m also really pleased to say that my first book, The Way I See It, is now available in a large print version.  You can get it from libraries or order it on-line at Amazon below:

Apart from my books, it’s been a great few weeks for Nicole’s fund.  On Thursday 6th August I went to my friends, Ralph and Matthew’s concert which they had organised to raise money for my fund.  It was held at Seasalter Christian Centre, and the hall was full of people there to support the event, which was great. There were several performers, including Matthew, who has an amazing voice. The night raised nearly £3,000, which I was really pleased with.  I wasn’t expecting that much to be raised, so it was a nice surprise!

On Saturday 8th I went to Margate Harbour Arm for the postcard auction which had been organised by Fiona, a friend of a friend. There were 100 postcards, and a good turn out of bidders.  I gave a small speech, and then the bidding began.  The postcards sold for a range of prices, lots for over £100, and Tracey Emin’s went for £500!  Altogether they raised an amazing £7,000!  Thank you so much to Fiona and everyone else who was involved.

On Sunday 16th I had a hospital appointment at Kent & Canterbury Hospital.  Yes, on a Sunday!  We got a parking space and were seen straight away though, so I now wish all my appointments were at the weekend!  I was there for an ultrasound of my stomach.  I’d asked for it as the pain in my back has been really bad again, so I wanted to check I didn’t have another bladder stone, as that gave me a lot of pain last year.  Luckily I don’t have another one, and all was fine with the scan.  That night I went out for dinner and drinks with the girls to celebrate being in remission for two and a half years – woohoo!

A couple of weeks ago I went to Broome Park in Canterbury for the launch of this year’s ‘Full Monte’.  This is a four day car rally from Canterbury to Monte Carlo to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust.  It was created by Alex Hamilton in memory of Jamie De Min, the brother of a friend of his who died of leukaemia in his teens.  This is the second year it has taken place.  The rally involved many drivers with very fancy cars, and they drove through five different countries to get to Monte Carlo, including Germany, Switzerland and France.  Each driver was sponsored for the event, and the proceeds from this year’s rally will be going to Nicole’s fund.

I went shopping to Westwood Cross last Friday to try and find a dress for my chocolate ball on Saturday.  I bought a lovely one, but it wasn’t right for the ball, so it meant I just had to go shopping again this week.  I managed to find another one which I’m really pleased with.  At least I have that sorted; normally I don’t know what I’m wearing until a couple of hours before!  The ball is coming together well and I’m really excited about it.  It has been quite stressful the last couple of weeks trying to organise everything and not always getting support from people, but hopefully it’ll all turn out ok on the night…

That’s most of my news I think.  It’ll be a little while again before I can update as I’m very busy at the moment.

Just a quick thank you to the people who continue to donate on my Justgiving page - it’s much appreciated!

Love Nicole xxx
